What is the Workers and Community Grant?

The American Public Servants Charitable Foundation has launched the Worker and Community Grant Program to support the professional lives of APSA members.

Any APSA Red Member is eligible to apply for funding through the APSCF Worker and Community Grant Program, either for themselves, or on behalf of a group or community they are part of.

Individuals may apply for funding for the following purposes:

  • Professional development activities, classes, or trainings to keep current job or maintain current accreditation / licensure;
  • Professional development activities, classes, or trainings to acquire new skills, accreditations, or licensures to be eligible for a raise, promotion, or other career advancement;
  • Workforce retraining programs or classes to learn new skills to acquire a new job or retain a job;
  • Reimbursement for a mandatory one-time or periodic professional licensing fee;
  • Reimbursement for legal fees incurred through APSA’s legal services provider, LegalShield, for employment-related legal services that are not fully covered by the APSA LegalShield plan.

 

Groups or communities may apply for funding for the following purposes:

  • Professional development activities, classes, or trainings to keep current job or maintain current accreditation / licensure;
  • Professional development activities, classes, or trainings to acquire new skills, accreditations, or licensures to be eligible for a raise, promotion, or other career advancement;
  • Workforce retraining programs or classes to learn new skills to acquire a new job or retain a job;
  • Project to improve your workplace or other professional community.

 

 

Is any APSA member eligible?

APSA Red Members are eligible to apply for this grant. If you’d like to join ASPA as a paid member, join here. If you need to upgrade your membership to apply for this grant, you can do so in the member portal. For questions, please contact us at membership@americanpublicservants.org

 

What if I am not an APSA member?

Unfortunately, only APSA Red Members are eligible for this funding through APSCF. Please considering joining here, or subscribing to the APSA newsletter if you’d like to learn more. Membership questions can be directed to membership@americanpublicservants.org

 

How do I apply with a group of people?

That’s great you want to apply with a group of people! One person in the group will need to be designated as the applicant, and fill out the application form. Only one person from the applying group need fill out the application. The application will ask for a list of names of the other members of your group.

If the grant application is awarded funding, the funding will be disbursed to the individual who completed the application, or to an entity who can otherwise manage the funding.

 

What if I receive the grant but then can’t do the project I planned to do?

Grantees can request changes to their proposed project in writing to APSCF, or may choose to cancel their grant and repay the disbursed funds. Changes are approved at the sole discretion of APSCF.

 

I want to apply, but I am not ready to yet. What are my options?

There will be two APSCF grant cycles in 2023: January – March and July – September. If you are unable to make the first cycle, please consider applying for the summer cycle of funding.

What’s the difference between the two organizations: APSA and APSCF?

The American Public Servants Association (APSA) is a 501(c)5 non-profit membership organization, providing support and resources to public-sector employees.

The American Public Servants Charitable Foundation (APSCF) is a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation that exists to support the activities of APSA and APSA members.

Grants received through the Workers and Community Grant Program will come from APSCF. Only APSA Red Members are eligible to receive these grants.
